Local clipping

Quote Clipper reads the folders or Plex library you choose so it can locate video, subtitles, and the requested scene. Finished clips are saved locally. The app does not upload a movie or episode as part of searching or making a clip.

Optional online lookups

Public quote identification can send the words you typed and a show or movie hint to public information sources. Optional Ollama and Codex helpers stay off until you enable them, and the app explains what each one sends before use.

Update checks

Once a day, Quote Clipper asks GitHub whether a newer version has been published. The request carries only the app's name and version. When a newer version exists, the app may download it from the same GitHub release and check it before offering to restart into it. You can turn update checks off in the app's settings.

Private web sharing

Private sharing is a separate, explicit action after a local clip has been created. Only the finished MP4 you approve uploads. Source paths, filenames, NAS names, Plex tokens, remembered quotes, titles, subtitles, and full source media are not included. Links are unlisted, expire within 30 days, and may expire sooner when an installation has more than 30 active shares or reaches its storage limit.

Deleting a shared copy

You can delete the shared copy from Quote Clipper without deleting the MP4 saved on your computer. New playback stops as soon as the share is disabled. A short playback grant already issued to an open viewer may continue for up to five minutes while the private stored copy is removed.
